Tennessee Williams, an American playwright has received many of the top theatrical awards for his works of drama.

“The Glass Menagerie” is a romantic play by Williams in which Amanda is the female head, after being abandoned by her husband, lives with her crippled daughter, Laura and her working son, Tom. She is a woman with great depression and so she is trapped between worlds of illusion and reality. She always tells Laura to stay nice and pretty for gentleman callers, even though Laura has never had any callers at their St. Louis apartment. When Tom goes out to the movies at night, Amanda accuses him of doing something else rather than going to the movies. She asks him to find some nice gentleman caller for Laura and to bring him home for dinner.

Laura has a childish character, so often spends all her time playing with the animals in her glass menagerie and her old phonograph records. A few days later, Tom tells Amanda that he has inv ited a young man — Jim O’Connor home for dinner. On the next night, Amanda does everything to make sure that Laura stays more attractive. Soon, when Laura realizes that Jim, who is visiting that night, is possibly the same Jim on whom she had a crush in high school, she becomes excited, but refuses to go through with the dinner.

Soon, Laura gives company to Jim in a living room, trying to impress him with her quiet charm and finally gives up some of her shyness. When Jim kisses Laura, it looks as if Amanda’s plans for Laura’s happiness may come true. Is this the beginning for Laura’s new life or will she be disappointed by Jim?
