What Are The Best Birthday Party Activities?

What does your daughter want?

A birthday party ought to be a reflection of what the birthday girl likes, so itâ€™s vital to include her when you make decisions. If you want to surprise her, make sure you include elements that you know her group of friends enjoy.

Where will you hold the party?
The partyâ€™s location is important. Staying at home will cost you less and give you more control. Having said that, youâ€™ll also have to do the clearing up yourself! Over the years, Iâ€™ve held parties at several venues, including public parks, indoor jungle-gyms, petting zoos and sandy beaches.

For example, a park will let you incorporated lots of activity games. A jungle-gym provides a chance for the children to take more risks but in a padded environment. If your children love animals, a visit to a petting zoo is a great idea. You may find that some of the children have not stroked some of the animals before! A beach party is sure to be a success.

So, what activities are there?
The key decision is which birthday party activities to do. Your answer to the questions above will sway your answer to this. Iâ€™ve organized them into four categories.

Physicality
This is to get the party goers moving. Games in this category allow the girls to wear themselves a little and get some exercise! The girls love running â€“ if some donâ€™t want to run around, I organize some smaller activities for them to do during these physical games.

Tag is always a good game and there are so heaps of ways to play it (e.g. if a girl gets tagged, they become another, or someone can be untagged by their friends running around them three times, etc).

If you can get hold of some old fabric sacks, sack races are great fun.

Music

There are many activities involving music to choose from. The most obvious is to have a disco or a space for the girls to dance.

We include activities such as Musical Statues and Musical Chairs. My daughters love playing on their dance-mat, which judges how well they dance to a particular song; this is always a success at their parties.

Singing

Any games which involve karaoke are guaranteed to be fun. Itâ€™s also fun letting the girls lip-synch to their favorite tune, and taping it to watch later on at the party as a group.

One game we adore playing is Missing Words. Each girl chooses a tune and each tune is then played in order. Every song is sung along to, but if anyone makes a mistake, they lose. The winner is the person who sang as many lyrics correctly as possible.

Creativity
Crazy Makeup is enjoyed by my children. Itâ€™s an extension of the usual makeup games, but is fun because they have to use clown paint and make themselves look demented. This is great for photos. Styling each otherâ€™s hair is also a good laugh.

Buy some products suitable for young skin and hair, and let them go wild. This is a great way to keep them entertained.

You could buy some plain skirts (enough white tops for each party goer) and let them decorate them. To do this, you should buy some dyes suitable for use on material. It would be a good idea to provide sufficient aprons!

Baking is also fun (you could make some cookies or let them make something using random ingredients. A taste quiz involving exotic foods is good fun, but confirm with the childrenâ€™s parents if they have any allergies.
