What Is Gurren Lagann About?

Gurren Lagann is a Japanese anime series that started on TV Tokyo in Asia. Directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, it was made by Gainax studios. Gurren Lagann showed for 27 episodes and received several recognition at the Japan Media Arts Fair, Tokyo International Anime Fair and the Animation Kobe. A comic derived off the show was dropped in 2007 and a console game for the Nintendo DS was released the same year. In 2008 and 2009 respectively, film editions of the anime were released in Japanese theaters and shortly made available internationally.

The show centers around the idea that in the future, human inhabitants of the planet have been chased underground to exist. Forming towns to persevere, they are always required to drive their homes further into the dirt due to continuous devastation being inflicted by ongoing earthquakes.

The main character, Simon, is an orphan miner, tasked with aiding the villagers of Giha, his town, to dig further into the Earth when needed. He is befriended by Kamina, another orphan digger, who has endless flashbacks of the land atop he was once able to glimpse briefly as a kid. After multiple perils, Simon and Kamina join together to go to the surface world only to find that the citizens there are always pursued by violent beigns called Beastmen and Gunmen. Joined by other rebel fighters longing for justice, they band together to defeat the tyrants and earn an end to the perilous conditions they are being suffering to on an everyday basis.
